The Air Force golf team recorded its second-best tournament score of the season on March 24 at the UC San Diego Invitational, held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California.
The Falcons finished with a three-round total of 873 (+9), just one stroke behind their top performance earlier in the season at the Loyola Intercollegiate. This result also marked Air Force’s best-ever score at the UCSD Invitational.
Loyola Marymount, which entered as the highest-ranked team, won the event among 17 teams with a score of 846 (-18). UC Santa Barbara took second place with an 853 (-11), while host school UC San Diego placed third with an 855 (-9). Air Force ended up in eleventh place overall.
Freshman Ben Zeiler led Air Force by shooting a one-over-par 73 in his final round and finishing fifteenth overall at 213 (-3), achieving his best tournament result to date. Junior Carson Baker also shot a final-round 73 (+1) and secured twenty-fifth place with a total of 216 (even), which was his career-best for a three-round tournament. Both Zeiler and Baker made three birdies during their last round.
Other contributors included junior Eli Huntington (219), Eric Liveringhouse (227), Grant Samuelson (231), and Ted Davenport, who competed individually and posted a score of 232. The Falcons will next compete in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on April 4-5 at Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia.
