Air Force Academy freshman Max McFarlane has been named the Mountain West Men’s Freshman of the Week following his performance at the Jarvis Scott Invitational. The announcement was made by conference officials on February 17.

McFarlane, who is from Denair, California, achieved a personal-best pole vault clearance of 5.34 meters (17 feet, 6¼ inches) during the invitational’s “A” section on February 14. This mark is now the second-highest in the conference for the season and placed him sixth in the meet. It also elevated him to No. 12 in Air Force’s all-time record book for pole vault.

The new height represents an improvement of 0.19 meters over McFarlane’s previous best. With this result, he ranks fifth among NCAA freshmen and stands within the top 40 overall nationally.

The Air Force track and field team will next compete at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are scheduled to take place from February 26 to 28 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
