Air Force football head coach Troy Calhoun, senior tailback Kade Frew, and senior punter Luke Freer spoke with local media ahead of the 2025 season opener. The Falcons will face Bucknell on Saturday, August 30 at Falcon Stadium.
The team ended the 2024 season with a four-game winning streak, defeating Fresno State and Oregon State at home and securing road victories against Nevada and San Diego State. This streak is currently the longest in the Mountain West Conference and ranks fourth nationally.
Academically, Air Force continues to perform strongly. The program posted a 992 in the most recent NCAA four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, which is the best in the Mountain West and eighth nationally. It marks the 13th consecutive year that Air Force has finished in the top ten for APR. In previous years, Air Force led the nation with a score of 997 in 2019 and was second with a score of 993 in 2018. The APR tracks academic progress by measuring eligibility, retention, and graduation rates for student-athletes.
Additionally, Air Force football was among six programs at the academy recognized by the NCAA for achieving perfect Graduation Success Rates (GSR). Fourteen programs were noted for GSRs of 95 or higher; football joined men’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s rifle, women’s basketball, women’s gymnastics, and women’s tennis as those with perfect scores. All colleges are required to report student graduation rates under federal law.
All twelve games on Air Force’s 2025 schedule have been selected for national television coverage. Eleven games will be played on Saturdays while one will take place on Friday. CBS will broadcast both service academy matchups: at Navy on October 4 (Noon ET) and hosting Army on November 1 (10 a.m. MT). Six contests will air on CBS Sports Network—including the opener against Bucknell—and two road games are scheduled for FS1 broadcasts: at Utah State (September 13) and Colorado State (November 28). Additional Fox Sports network selections include games against Hawaii at home (September 27) and at San Jose State (November 8), with kickoff times to be announced.
Against their upcoming opponents for this season, Air Force holds an all-time record of 216-148-3 (.593 winning percentage), maintaining a winning record versus nine out of ten teams they will face. Their matches against Bucknell and UConn will be first-time meetings.
Historically, Air Force is strong in season openers—holding a record of 48-19-2 overall and going 42-8 when opening at home. The Falcons have won their last eighteen season openers—a streak that stands as third-longest active nationally behind Ohio State (25) and Alabama (23). At home specifically, they have won nineteen out of their last twenty openers.
The team also remains undefeated in August play with a record of twelve wins—all taking place at Falcon Stadium—and includes three conference victories during this month. Head Coach Troy Calhoun has guided his teams to five August wins without defeat since taking over as head coach.
