Air Force men’s basketball was defeated by Miami (Ohio) with a final score of 76-61 at Clune Arena on Saturday. Junior forward Caleb Walker led the Falcons, setting career highs with 17 points and eight rebounds, going 6-of-8 from the field and attempting 12 free throws.
Miami (Ohio), now holding a 3-0 record, relied heavily on three-point shooting, making 13 shots from beyond the arc. The Redhawks were led by forward Brant Byers, who scored 18 points, and Antwone Woolfolk, who contributed 13 rebounds. Air Force managed to close the gap to four points midway through the second half after trailing by as many as 16 but could not sustain the momentum as Miami responded with an 8-0 run.
Freshman Lucas Hobin made his first career start for Air Force and posted a personal best of 16 points, hitting four three-pointers and collecting four rebounds. Sophomore Eli Robinson added 13 points along with five assists and two steals.
Defensively, Air Force matched its season-high with 10 steals. Freshmen Ethan Greenberg recorded four steals while Kam Sanders added three.
At halftime, Miami led by a score of 40-26 after connecting on seven three-pointers in the opening period. Overall, Air Force shot 41 percent from the field and made just over a quarter of its three-point attempts. The team reached the free throw line 22 times but converted only 64 percent of those opportunities.
Air Force will play next on Wednesday, November 19, hosting Alabama State at Clune Arena with tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m. MT.
