The Air Force Falcons women’s soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) Mountain Lions on Tuesday, September 16, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons’ record now stands at 1-4-2, while UCCS improves to 3-1-1.
Air Force had more shots than UCCS, with a total of 15 compared to the Mountain Lions’ 12. Annika Jost, Peyton Ferrell, Kendall Rippley, and Zahra Friess each recorded one shot on goal for the Falcons. Goalkeeper Trishelle Lopez made two saves during the match.
The Falcons began the game with high energy and created several early chances through AJ Heap, Chase Borntreger, and Annika Jost. However, wet field conditions affected play in the attacking third and prevented Air Force from converting opportunities into goals. In the first half, Lopez stopped both attempts from UCCS to keep the score even at halftime.
In the second half, Air Force continued to control possession and came close to scoring in the 55th minute when Borntreger’s long-range effort narrowly missed. UCCS took the lead in the 73rd minute when Brooke Pavlich scored with a shot over Lopez. Elise Broberg added a second goal for UCCS in the 82nd minute following a corner kick opportunity for Air Force.
Despite five late shots by Air Force in an attempt to close the gap before full time, they were unable to score.
Air Force is scheduled to play its next match against Northern Colorado at Cadet Soccer Stadium on Friday, September 19 at 6 p.m. MT.
