The Air Force Falcons women’s volleyball team will host two Mountain West Conference matches this week at the United States Air Force Academy. The Falcons are set to play San Diego State on Thursday, October 2 at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time, followed by a match against UNLV on Saturday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m. Both games will take place in Cadet East Gym.
Tickets for both matches are available for purchase through GoAirForceFalcons.com. The Academy’s Clear Bag Policy will be enforced during these events. Fans can watch live broadcasts of the matches via the Mountain West Network and MW App, accessible on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Android TV platforms. George Egan will provide commentary for both games, with Josh Howe joining him for Saturday’s contest.
Individuals without Department of Defense identification must obtain a visitor pass to enter the Academy for athletic events.
Thursday’s game marks San Diego State’s final appearance as a Mountain West opponent. San Diego State recently went undefeated in its opening weekend of conference play, securing road victories over Fresno State and San Jose State to improve its overall record to 5-7. The Aztecs feature this week’s Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, who leads the team in hitting percentage (.389) and kills per set (4.25), ranking third in the conference after two matches.
UNLV enters the week with a 7-5 overall record and is 1-1 in conference play. The Rebels recently lost to San Jose State but defeated Fresno State. As a team, UNLV led the conference in serving last week with an average of 2.22 aces per set. Alondra Alarcon leads the league individually with seven aces and a per-set average of 0.78.
Historically, San Diego State holds a 42-11 advantage over Air Force; however, Air Force has won six of their last eleven meetings overall and seven of their last nine home contests against San Diego State. Against UNLV, Air Force trails in the all-time series 49-6, with five of those wins occurring at home.
The Falcons completed September with a record of six wins and five losses. This marks only the eleventh time since joining Division I that Air Force has finished September at .500 or better.
During their recent win over Nevada on September 25, Mia Loyd reached her 1000th career assist—becoming just the seventh Falcon in the modern era to achieve this milestone—and also recorded her tenth career double-double.
After this homestand, Air Force will travel to Northern California next week for additional conference matchups against Fresno State and San Jose State.
“SEMPER SUPRA, ALWAYS ABOVE
The Falcons will wear their Space Force uniform against UNLV on Oct. 4, as the United States Space Force has partnered with Air Force Athletics to provide uniforms for each team. USAFA is the premier undergraduate commissioning source for the Space Force, as about 10-percent of each class commission as Guardians each year.”
