Air Force baseball defeated St. Thomas 20-12 on March 16 at Erdle Field, with the Falcons recording 14 hits and 17 runs batted in during the game.
The win brings Air Force’s record to 7-11, while St. Thomas falls to 4-15. The Falcons’ offense was led by T.J. Oster and Tripp Garrish, who each drove in three runs. Ben Niednagel, Walker Zapp, Wyatt Hanoian, and Luke Elmore also contributed with one run batted in apiece.
Freshman pitcher Aiden Poe earned his second career win after pitching 4.1 innings, striking out three batters and allowing four runs. Trey Rutledge, Davis Rhyne, Ethan Dillinger, and Easton Miller also pitched for Air Force during the game.
After a scoreless first inning, Air Force scored two runs in the second inning following a home run by Garrish. St. Thomas briefly took the lead in the third inning before Air Force responded with three runs of their own to regain control of the game. The Falcons extended their lead with a seven-run fourth inning and continued to add runs throughout the contest.
St. Thomas managed to score several times but could not overcome Air Force’s offensive output. The final score was set after both teams added additional runs late in the game.
Air Force is scheduled to travel to Reno for its next Mountain West series against Nevada from March 20 through March 22.
